“President M.” is the table designed for Mitterrand’s private study at the Elysue Palace. It can be totally dismantled. The tubular legs are really only a “secondary” structure, providing the base for the fins or wings on which the table top is actually resting. These anthropomorphic silhouettes are so visually striking and so ideally suited to their function that the table top seems to be floating on a cushion of air.
