While he might be best known for his outlandish fashion designs—Madonna’s early 90’s cone-bra being the prime example—Jean Paul Gaultier has a different sort of fall collection this year—a beautiful new furniture line for his fellow Frenchmen at Roche Bobois. In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Roche Bobois has unveiled a collection of furniture designs created in collaboration with Jean Paul Gaultier.
Reflecting Gaultier’s trademark originality, playfulness and wit, the new designs (including ‘dressings’ of some of Roche Bobois’ most well-known pieces) is a celebration of high glamour and carries the themes of travel, romance and adventure.
Mah Jong
He started by reworking famed, and recently deceased, German designer Hans Hopfer’s iconic Mah Jong sofa, itself created for Roche Bobois in the 1970’s. Gaultier paid tribute to the master by keeping the modular seating’s shape but updating it by swapping out its hippie-chic upholstery for the striped-canvas Sailor, a nautical number that draws one of his favorite themes.

Ben Hur
A humorous reference to the chariot race in the famous film, this Gaultier-designed chair (for Roche Bobois) has a curving laminated aluminium structure cradling a velvet- upholstered seat that comes in red, green, blue and yellow.

Suitcases
"Suitcases" - a limited edition collection of a fully functional leather-upholstered and saddle-stitched chest of drawers and storage unit.

Wardrobe
Limited edition of 250 pieces. Articulated trunk with wheels, 3 internal mirrored flaps. Silver anodized faired aluminium structure with chromed angle pieces. Digital print, « Tatoo » pattern.
L. 65 x H. 192 x D. 80.5 cm
